Prefatory remarks are remarks introducing the topic of speech or discussion. A prefatory passage is an introductory passage at the beginning of a book indicating what the book is on. A prefatory note is a few words of introduction to a book, speech, discussion, etc.
- In his prefatory note the author explained the theme of the book and the trouble he had to undergo for gathering material for the book.
- After some prefatory remarks, the president invited the speakers to speak. Though his remarks were just introductory, they included very important points.
