A propellant is a thing that propels something, or forces it forward. An explosive for firing a bullet is a propellant. The fuel that fires a rocket is a propellant. Any substance that forces a thing forward is a propellant.
- Liquid Hydrogen is an important propellant used in rockets to fire them into air and space. Without it, the rocket cannot be fired.
- Ordinary propellants are no use in sending rockets into space. Special propellants with extraordinary power alone can drive rockets forwards.
