the rules for writing poetry
Prosody is the rules for versification, that is, the rules to be followed in writing poetry. The study of sounds and rhythms in poetry, and their arrangement is what prosody is all about. The rules about meter, rhyme and rhythm are prosody.
- The poetry of great poets is spontaneous, that is, it flows out naturally without effort and the words automatically fall into their places and without effort, satisfying the requirements of prosody.
- Prosody just tells us about the different forms of verse, the arrangement of words, etc; but the more important aspect of poetry is imagination and thought. Great poetry is always the product of great imagination and not simply writing according to prosody rules.
