英语解释:someone who has the authority to do something for you, especially to vote
A person acts as your proxy if you give them the power to act for you, especially if you authorize them to vote for you or to sign for you. A vote so cast is a proxy vote. At company meetings, for example, shareholders who cannot vote personally vote by proxy; that is, they authorize someone to vote on their behalf. The power so given is also proxy.
- The husband was not allowed to be a proxy for his wife, as the rules did not permit it. The authorities insisted that the wife herself sign the document.
- As the notice for the meeting was rather short, most shareholders preferred to have their votes cast by their proxies. Nearly fifty five per cent of those present at the meeting represented the absentee shareholders and voted on their behalf.
