When you ravel something you make it tangled and complicated. You ravel threads When they get tangled because you have pulled them lose and matted them up together. You ravel a situation if you complicate it. Raveling also means disentangling a tangled mass of threads, web, etc. When you make a situation clearly understood, you ravel it, that is, you unravel it.
