a deep narrow valley with steep sides.
英语解释:a deep narrow valley, especially one formed by running water
A ravine is a deep narrow valley with steep sides formed mostly as a result of the erosion caused by constant flow of large quantities of water. When it rains the water flowing down mountain slopes cut into the rocky surfaces forming a ravine.
- From on edge of the ravine one could not have a clear idea of its depth. It appeared to be bottomless.
- As he slid down the steep side of the ravine he hit the bottom of the ravine he did not know at what depth. Fortunately the other mountaineers in the team pulled him up by the rope tied around him.
