a large dining hall.
A refectory is a large dining hall, usually in a religious institution like a monastery where monks live. The dining halls in some schools and colleges in Britain are also called refectories.
- The refectory in the institution for the training of the catholic priests was large. Meals could be served in the dining hall for at least a hundred at a time.
- Most of the students have to take their meal standing, as the dining table in the refectory was small. The dining hall needs at least one more dining table.
